In his first year at the Royal Military College, Matthew Dawe struggled with his coursework. By the time he finished fourth year, however, he was the Cadet Wing Senior, the leader among his peers. He was also an award-winning athlete and the recipient of academic honours in civil engineering.
And when he returned from Afghanistan in mid-August, the youngest son in one of Kingston's foremost military families intended to pursue graduate work. The Captain Matthew Jonathan Dawe Building, a 97-room residence for Canadian Forces members coming to CFB Kingston for training, opened with military pomp October 7. |

| Obituary: |
Dawe, Captain Matthew Jonathan
July 4th, 2007 saw the passing of Captain Matt Dawe of the Princess Patricias Light Infantry along with five of his brother-in-arms. He died in the line of duty; doing what he believed in with people he admired. Matt is survived by the love of his life Tara and his beautiful little boy Lucas. He is also survived by his mother Reine, father Peter Sr., and brothers Peter Jr., Philip and James. Whether commanding his platoon, or spending quality time with Lucas and Tara, he was defined by the passion with which he pursued everything he undertook. |
